RECENT PROGRESS IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF VIRUSES OF Phctseolus vulçêris in AFRICA

With the advent of regional programmes on the improvement of beans in Africa and with the concomitant need for germplasm exchange between CIAT and its regional bases, it appeared essential to characterize hitherto unrecognized viruses in natural infections of Fhaseolus spp. in AfricaCharacterization and «tapping these viruses would ensure that the quarantine legislation governing the movement of bean seed remains firmly based, and moreover would assist in determining to what extent viruses other than BCMV need to be taken into account by bean improvement programmes in Africa.
